Objekt med prepositionsfras

For those not familiar with grammar vocabulary, simply look at the samples and compare.

Practice makes perfect, so knowing it makes for a good start...

A

Vissa verb konstrueras endast med personobjekt + prepositionsfras: 

They accused him of blackmail.
De anklagade honom för utpressning.

He was accused of blackmail.
Han anklagades för utpressning. 

A sign warned them against walking on thin ice.
En skylt varnade dem för att gå på tunn is.

A sign warned them not to walk on thin ice.

Excuse me for troubling you but...
Ursäkta att jag stör men... 

This doesn't prevent me from thinking otherwise.
This doesn't prevent my thinking otherwise.
Detta hindrar inte att jag tycker annorlunda.

Andra engelska verb som konstrueras med personobjekt + prepositionsfras är

assure of försäkra någon om något

convict of döma för, överbevisa om, fälla för

convince of övertyga om

deprive of beröva

remind of påminna om

rob of beröva, ta ifrån, frånta, stjäla från

suspect of misstänka för

congratulate on gratulera till

introduce to presentera för

invite [treat] to,  [buy] bjuda på, bjuda in, inbjuda
I bought her a couple of Martinis before asking her. 

Could I buy you a beer? Could I treat you to a cocktail?

It's my treat= Jag bjuder

I was invited to a party thrown by the Governor of Texas, just outside the city limits of El Paso. This was back in '78 I believe.

charge with  anklaga för (formellt, officiellt)
We made sure the shooter was later charged with manslaughter, posession of a concealed and deadly weapon together with obstruction of justice.

Några verb konstrueras med sakobjekt + prepositionsfras

They explained the problem to me.
De förklarade problemet för mig.

It was repeated/announced/dictated to... me several times during the week that followed.

C

Särskilt viktigt från svensk synpunkt kan det vara att lägga märke till verb som kan ha två (2) objekt i svenskan men som kräver objekt + prepositionsfras i engelskan

She doesn't know what caused the mishap. Maybe we should attribute it to the human factor.
Kanske ska vi tillskriva det (skylla på) den mänskliga faktorn. 

He confided a secret to me.
Han anförtrodde mig en hemlighet.

What have you got to say to me?
Vad har du att säga mig?

That is the only thing he can suggest to her.
Det är det enda han kan föreslå henne.

We have communicated all this information to the company in question.
Vi har meddelat all denna information till företaget ifråga/ifrågavarande företag.

D

They provided everybody with food.
They provided food for everybody
De försåg alla med mat. 

I was later presented with a nickel-plated .45 ACP Commander.
They later presented me with a  nickel-plated .45 ACP Commander.
They presented a nickel-plated .45 ACP Commander to me later.
De förärade mig senare en förnicklad .45 ACP Commander.

OBS!  Att ord som remind, thank och tell oftast kräver personobjekt i engelskan!

This reminds me of something I heard in Vienna last summer.
Detta påminner om något jag hörde i Wien i somras (förra sommaren).

She told me the most incredible story about having been robbed of all her belongings and clothes except for her panties.
